CENTROPOLIS — The county commission will try to cut Centropolis residents a break. Rather than raise Centropolis sewer rates, county planner Larry Walrod said the county will look at refinancing the bonds used to build the original system. Refinancing the bonds could save enough money that will allow more funds to make some needed improvements to the system, he said. Earlier this year, the city of Ottawa helped the county inspect the sewer lines at Centropolis, he said. Because Centropolis is unincorporated, Franklin County owns and maintains the system. Centropolis residents already pay $45 a month for sewer service, and Walrod says raising rates isn’t much of an option and create more delinquent bills.
