OTTAWA — It’s classical gas for about the next month. Ottawa Suzuki Strings Sound Encounters started Wednesday night and heralds a series of workshops, training sessions, and events and mostly centered at Ottawa University through early July. Sound Encounters brings some of the top young musicians in the nation to Ottawa for the next week, said Alice Joy Lewis, Ottawa Suzuki Strings executive director. That also means some the public can hear free world-class music nearly every night, she said. The first concert is Friday night at 7 at the Carnegie Cultural Center, and showcasing Los Angeles cellist David Garrett and his pianist wife, Junko Ueno Garrett, backed by Sound Encounters faculty. Although concerts at the Carnegie are free, lewis asks that you get advance tickets so that too many people don’t show up for the building’s crowd limits. For tickets, call 242-5200, ext. 5437.
