OTTAWA — Tonight’s Suzuki Strings Sound Encounters concert by Brian Lewis has been changed to Washburn Towers. Ottawa Suzuki Strings’ director Alice Joy Lewis said the concert was scheduled for Ottawa University Chapel but the air-conditioning system failed, causing the change of location. The concert is free and no tickets will be required because of the size of the Washburn Towers auditorium. Despite the location change, the concert will premiere music written specifically for Kansas’s 150th anniversary. Ottawa native and nationally-known violinist Brian Lewis will perform “Concerto Marais des Cygnes’ written by Kansan Charles Hoag. The concerto was written as a nod to the state’s anniversary and because Lewis grew up in Ottawa and was a student who went through the Suzuki Strings program. Other Kansas-themed works will be performed. Kansas University teacher and violist Peter Chun will perform Tuesday night at 7 at the Carnegie Cultural Center.
