KANSAS CITY, Kan. — General Motors said it will invest $20 million in machinery and equipment for its Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas City, Kan. The improvements will be used to make its Buick Lacrosse with E-Assist. GM says E-Assist is a light electrification technology that will boost the Lacrosse’s highway fuel economy by 25 percent. The improved Lacrosse goes on sale this summer. The Fairfax announcement is part of the $2 billion in improvements that GM plans for 17 plant in eight states. The Fairfax plant has more than 3,900 employees and is the largest employer in the Kansas City metro area. GM said the Fairfax plant produced 320,000 Chevy Malibus and Buick Lacrosses.
