WASHINGTON — Kansas is part of a regional grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reduce greenhouse gases in the dairy and beef industry. The new Conservation Innovation Grant is part of EQIP. Wisconsin-based consultant Unison Resource Company will receive a more than $1 million grant to create ways in which carbon credits can be used to improve cattle feed efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases in feedlots and dairies in Kansas and seven other states. The grants are a way to create markets that allow farmers to make money from their conservation and environmental practices, said U.S. ag secretary Tom Vilsack.
