OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission gave the green light to a $4.4 million overhaul of the eastern section of the city’s sewer network. The eastern side of the city’s network of sewer lines is the oldest in the city and needs to be replaced, said Jim Martin, of Professional Engineering Consultants. And when a new expanded network is mated to the new force-lift pump station south of I-35, which was built to supply sewer service to the new Love’s Travel Center at I-35 and U.S 59, the city will have the capability to serve more than a thousand acres of new territory, which could spur and building and business boom on the south edge of the city, he said. Construction is slated to begin in two years.
