OTTAWA — Sunday night’s fire at an apartment house at Sixth and Cedar caused nearly $120,000 in damage. According to the Ottawa Fire Department, the damage to the house was $88,000 – and the estimated value of the house owned by Evan Schaffer and David Grove was $88,000 – and damage to contents was $30,000. Assistant Fire Chief Richard Oglesby said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire department, Ottawa Police Department and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office are conducting the investigation. When firefighters arrived at the house, flames were coming out of a window of a western bedroom, Oglesby said. Ottawa firefighters were assisted by the Lincoln-Ottawa-Harrison Rural Volunteer Fire Department. Three apartments were in the house. He said there were no injuries.
