OTTAWA — Life at the Franklin County jail has seen it ups and downs since lightning fried the jail’s elevator. County commissioners discussed Monday whether to repair the electronic parts or spend more and take more time and put in improved parts and computer programming to run the elevator. County administrator Lisa Johnson said that it’s becoming more difficult to find the older parts or find technicians willing to replace them and she recommended that the county upgrade the elevator. Sheriff Jeff Curry said his staff is willing to wait for the more expensive and permanent repairs. Commissioners, who appeared willing to consider the upgrade, will vote on what to do at Wednesday’s meeting. Johnson said that the county would eventually have to make major repairs or replace the elevator in the future.
