OTTAWA — Because of state school funding cuts and budget cutbacks, Ottawa schools won’t have a school resource officer. Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler tried to get a grant to cover the cost of an SRO but that didn’t come through, said Supt. Dean Katt. The school board discussed ways to finance an SRO but state school funding cuts were so steep that the board decided to wait, he said. They also tried to see if there was a way to have a half-time SRO but the finances didn’t permit that, he said.
