OTTAWA — Community in Schools is close to getting a grant that will bring two Americorps volunteers into Ottawa schools. Supt. Dean Katt said if the grant if approved, the Americorps volunteers would help with afterschool programs at the middle school and at all of the elementary schools except Garfield, help track attendance and help run the new OFCED attendance programs, and coordinate Reality U training. “It would really help out the district,” he said. If the district gets the grant, it would cost the district $3,500 for each person, which he called a bargain.
