TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services will close its offices at Garnett, Lyndon and Lawrence. Six other offices across the state are also being closed. The SRS said considerations for the closings included caseload size, proximity to other SRS offices, and cost efficiency. SRS secretary Rob Siedlecki said the closings will save $1 million. The staff will be reassigned to neighboring offices based upon service needs, he said. There are five employees in the Garnett office, 10 at Lyndon and 87 at Lawrence. SRS will maintain access points in each of the cities, where people can receive information and paper applications for services. In Garnett, that’s the Garnett East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation office and the SEK-Multi County Health Department. For the Lyndon office – access points are Burlingame City Hall, Burlingame Community Library, Melvern City Hall, the ECKAN office in Osage City, Osage City Library, Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City, Overbrook Library, Quenemo City Hall and Scranton City Hall. Lawrence: Community Health Facility, Lawrence Public Library, Lawrence Workforce Center, Healthcare Access and the United Way Center for Human Services.
