KANSAS CITY – Kansas City District officials of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at don’t expect this weekend’s heavy rains in the area to cause even more flooding along the swollen Missouri River this week. Col. Tony Hofmann, Kansas City District commander, said that instead, the Missouri River will remain high for longer because of the rains. The Missouri River is at historically high levels. Many of the levees north of Kansas City have been overtopped or breached by the flooding river, he said. The Corps is continuing aerial inspection flights of levees on both sides of Kansas City. The Corps is now getting requests for help from areas downstream of Kansas City, he said.
