WAVERLY — A 31-year-old Emporia man was killed and three other people were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday night on U.S. 75 in Coffey County six miles south of I-35. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Matthew Tucker was driving south on U.S. 75 when he approached the rear of a semi truck, tried to pass and struck a mini-van driven by Cherity Kerns, 35, Osage City, head-on. Troopers said Tucker, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was taken to Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, Brandon Anderson, 27, Emporia, was injured and was taken to Coffey County Hospital. Kerns was injured and was taken to Stormont Bail Medical Center in Topeka. Her passenger, Luke Kerns, 4, Osage City was injured and was taken Coffey County Hospital.
