The Miami County Republic reported Mayte Rodriguez talked about her life growing up in Michoacán, and the differences in cultures of Mexico. Rodriguez told youngsters she didn’t have many toys, and instead, made clay pots out of materials she found near her home. She also remembered using charcoal to write during school, and that animals were used for transportation. She also told youngsters about being in Mexico City during the massive earthquake in 1985. The Republic reported the youths were most enthusiastic about dressing up in Mexican clothing, dancing to traditional music, and eating authentic food.
