OTTAWA — Communities in Schools of Ottawa and ECKAN are collecting money and supplies for children’s school supplies. There will be also various “meet and sign up” activities with many local organizations serving children – mentoring, tutoring, afterschool programs, health and wellness resources. The campaign goal is $12,000 in money and supplies to meet the expected demand. In partnership with People’s Bank, the campaign will also present a pilot savings program that will support families to teach their children how to save money. The sign up for the program will through July 29. Those interested are asked to fill out an application for the school supplies portion of the program at the ECKAN central office. The phone number is 242-7515. In addition, Hope House will take applications for the socks and underwear program during July. Last year’s campaign helped more than 400 children.
