LAWRENCE — The Kansas River kept rescue crews busy. A Lawrence doctor drowned Friday afternoon while kayaking the river near Topeka. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Ryan Moore, 36, was a doctor at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. His body was found Friday afternoon in the water about 300 yards downstream from the weir at the Topeka water treatment plant. Late Sunday night, Douglas County officers rescued 15 teens who decided during a party to get aboard canoes, life jackets, rafts and inner tubes for a float trip down the Kaw from Lecompton to Lawrence. Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Steve Lewis said the 15 trickled in from the river and got out at Riverfront Park in Lawrence. He says none were injured or appeared to be in any danger.
