ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Workers spent this weekend making frantic efforts to make emergency repairs on a Missouri River levee near St. Joseph, Mo. Part of the levee started sliding into the river, said Col. Tony Hofmann, U.S. Army Corps Kansas City District commander. More than 950 tons of rock had been dumped in the scour, he said during last night’s news conference. Work was to continue this morning, he said. Despite the landslide, the levee is holding the river, he said.
