WASHINGTON — The weird weather affecting this growing season is proving to be a major test for farmers and for the nation’s crop insurance system. This growing season has brought many disasters and unique situations for the crop insurance system and the Farm Service Agency to handle, said Bill Murphy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency administrator. “It’s literally been one issue after another,” Murphy said. He said his agency is getting information to farmers on their options of how to handle drought- and heat-stricken crops and stay within the parameters of the crop insurance program.
