FORT LEAVENWORTH — The ashes of 14 veterans and three of their wives were buried Tuesday with military honors at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. The burials were part of a “Missing in America” memorial service. The ashes were of Civil War and World War I veterans who had been kept in storage at area funeral homes and forgotten. Members of the Kansas National Guard provided the color guard and the firing party, and historical re-enactors accompanied the ashes. Among those Guard members taking part in the ceremony, Theodore Meyer of Osage City; Stephen Levins of Ottawa; Ben Gettler of Fort Scott.
