WICHITA — The Robert J. Dole Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita has agreed to pay near $18,000 in a civil penalty to settle a series of hazardous waste violations. The VA has also agreed to spend nearly $62,000 to build a hazardous waste storage building at the Wichita hospital. With the new building, the medical center will safely accumulate hazardous wastes and ship them in a timely manner to licensed facilities that properly treat and dispose of them. EPA inspectors have found a number of federal and state environmental and health violations involving hazardous materials at the center.
