COLONY- U.S 169 is back open for travel after being temporarily closed yesterday afternoon. Just shortly after 10:00 yesterday morning, the Colony City Marshall discovered what was perceived to be a suspicious explosive device in an occupied vehicle owned by a Welda resident. The device was spotted in the parked vehicle in downtown Colony, then was followed and stopped for further inspection between 500 and 700 roads on US 169. The Anderson County Sheriff’s office came to assist after the Marshall noticed the device to be armed with a fuse. The highway closed for north and southbound traffic until the Olathe Fire Department Bomb Squad Unit arrived to remove and detonate the device. Nobody was injured in the process, no arrests were made, and the highway remained closed for about five hours.
