OTTAWA — Today’s DARE camp will be cut short today because of the extreme heat. Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler says today’s camp will end this afternoon at 3. Family night was scheduled for tonight but has been cancelled. Monday’s camp was cut short when the air temperature reading at the Timberlake Ranch hit 108 degrees, Butler says. Today’s temperatures are expected to be even higher. One child was treated by the camp nurse for heat-related issues but was otherwise in good health and continued taking part in activities, he said. Parents and caregivers may pickg up their children today beginning at 3. Because of work, some parents may not be able to pick up their children at 3, he said. Camp staff will wait at the camp until all children have been picked up, he said.
