OTTAWA — Much of today’s “Extreme Makeover” construction has focused on making the Allen and Gina Hill house quiet. Special drywall and insulation and other sound-deadening features were being installed in the house this morning. The construction will try to catch up after being slowed by this week’s blistering heat. ‘Extreme Makeover’s’ Paul DiMeo said the heat has been a factor and there has been a larger need for volunteers. Now that work kicked back into high gear with the cooler temperatures this morning, ‘Extreme Makeover’ needs more skilled volunteers today, said Harold Wingert, who has been recruiting and organizing volunteers for the project. Now that most of the drywall has been hunt, dry wall tapers and sanders are especially needed, as well as stone masons and stucco finishers. And it’s not just been people at the work site this week
Allen Hill, who received a brain injury from an explosion in Iraq, has a guide dog from the group “Puppies Behind Bars.” With help from Prairie Paws, Ottawa, Puppies Behind Bars is trying to have some of its dogs at the site during the week.
