WASHINGTON — The state of Missouri has picked up a second federal high-speed rail grant. This grant is to a group of midwestern states that also includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Michigan. At one time, that group included Wisconsin until conservative governor Scott Walker rejected federal rail grants. U.S. transportation secretary Ray LaHood announced the grant Wednesday. The midwest states will receive $268 million to buy seven new locomotives and 49 two-level rail cars. Missouri picked up an earlier high-speed rail grant. Missouri is improving its passenger rail service between St. Louis and Kansas City’s Union Station.
