TOPEKA — Two area nursing homes are among seven in the state that will be honored by the Kansas Department on Aging. The department will recognize Brookside Retirement Community of Overbrook and Medicalodge Gardner for moving from a traditional institution to a progressive home-environment. Aging secretary Shawn Sullivan will present PEAK Awards to Brookside Retirement Community on Aug. 15 and to Medicalodges Gardner on Aug. 23.
