OTTAWA – Ottawa police are investigating the theft of copper wire cut from city electrical poles at 10th and Highland Friday. About seven to eight feet each were cut from six poles, said Jeff Olson, electrical assistant said. The theft probably won’t mean much money for the thieves but posed a serious safety risk for anyone near the poles until the ground wires were replaced, Olson said. Without the grounding wires, electricity could find a new ground, including people using construction equipment or even standing near electric meters on houses.
