OTTAWA — Just days in their new Extreme Makeover house, Allen and Gina Hill and their two sons are still trying to find their way around their new house and where everything is located. They met with reporters and with contractors, volunteers and representatives of community groups Monday at the house. The popular ABC television show and thousands of area volunteers built the Hills’ house southwest of Ottawa in a week. Allen Hill said last week will be an example to his sons about patriotism and compassion. Hill was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq, and still suffers from flashbacks and is sensitive to loud and sudden noises. “The quiet room” built in the house is going to be one of his favorites, he said. The Hills received additional gifts, including a 10-year subscription to the Gollier Rehabilitation and $1,000 in free services at Ransom Memorial Hospital, full scholarships at Ottawa University for Mikal and Drayson Hill and a scholarship for Allen Hill, and free tax preparation help. The Hills will also receive approximately $30,000 to help with the maintenance and other costs of their new house. Contractors will still be doing some finish work on the house.
