PAOLA- The Paola Police Department is looking to increase its positive image in the community, and the first way they’re going to do that is be a part of the community. The police department plans to giveaway two bikes at the upcoming roots festival. In order to be entered into the drawing for the bikes, kids must meet all of the officers on duty, get their autograph, then turn in the fully autographed card. The police department also has plans to show their faces more in downtown shops as part of a “Cops in the Shops” initiative. Police Chief Dave Smail says that all of this is part of an effort to improve its public relations department, and interacting with the public in a positive manner is the first step to improvement.
