OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie city officials are going over a report for the city’s electric system master plan. The consulting firm Sawvel and Associates presented a 20-year plan of the existing power supply and distribution system, as well as recommended improvements to the system. The Osawatomie Journal reported that Sawvel’s Donald Gruenemeyer said if one of its substations were out of service, the peak demand would exceed the capacity of the city’s remaining substation. Although the city’s electrical network is in good condition despite its age, it should be modernized to increase capacity and reduce losses, he also said. Sawvel’s recommendations include adding a third substation. The study’s recommendations would total between $5.2 and $7.2 million. The consultant said improvements could be done without increasing electrical bills by issuing bonds.
