GARNETT — It’s something more than just another new piece of paperwork. Parents of junior high and high school athletes have had a new form to sign when they enrolled their students for school this year. Anderson County High School athletic director Don Hilliard told the Anderson County Review that the form discusses the dangers of head injuries and concussion, and what has to be done before athlete can return to play after a concussion. Earlier this year, the legislature passed a law that requires all student athletes to be informed of the signs, symptoms and issues surrounding concussions. The law got a push as a result of the death of Spring Hill High School football player Nathan Stiles, who had played against Osawatomie but had received a concussion in a previous game. Last year, Hilliard said several Anderson County High School football players missed games because of concussions.
