OTTAWA — Ottawa city commissioners will vote on a special sales tax this morning at 9:30 proposed for the Love’s Travel Center development on the south edge of the city. A one-cent sales tax would be collected only in the Love’s complex and used to pay for utilities, streets and other city improvements, city manager Richard Nienstedt said. The special sales tax, which was proposed by the developers as part of a transportation development financial district, the one-cent sales tax would only be collected in the loves complex and used to pay for utilities, streets and other city improvements. The proposal is similar to the special sales tax at the Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, he said. The Love’s Travel Center is scheduled to open in October and the construction remains on scheduled, Nienstedt said. Indeed, the center could open a little early late next month.
