GARNETT — Members of the Garnett Chamber Players Community Theatre and the Friends of the Garnett Public Library will present readings from Edgar Lee Masters’ “Spoon River Anthology” Sunday. Admission is free and the show will be on Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Thelma Moore Community Playhouse. Friends of the Garnett Public Library will serve refreshments. Masters is a Garnett native and the program is part of the city’s 150th anniversary. “Spoon River” is a series of epitaph-monologues delivered by the ghosts of deceased citizens of the fictional town of Spoon River, Ill., and they reveal the deeply-guarded secrets of their lives. When it was published in 1915, Masters’ “Spoon River” shocked America and demolished the romantic myth of small-town life.
