LYNDON — The lesbian lover of slaying victim Karen Kahler testified that husband James Kraig Kahler approved of the relationship and wanted to make it a three-some. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Sunny Reese told Osage County jurors Wednesday that she refused Kraig Kahler’s proposition and that she encouraged Karen Kahler to divorce her husband instead. She told jurors that she pushed her to divorce to protect her from her abusive husband, not simply so she could be with her. Kraig Kahler is being tried on charges that he killed Karen Kahler, their daughters, Lauren and Emily; and Karen Kahler’s grandmother Dorothy Wight at Wight’s house in Burlingame during the Thanksgiving weekend of 2009. Reese said Karen Kahler told her that her husband physically abused her but she also testified that she didn’t witness any such incidents. In other testimony, jurors heard a recording from Wight’s Life Alert health and security system. The Capital-Journal reported that they heard screaming and crying before the recording cut off. In other testimony, a KBI agent listed the weapons and anti-anxiety drugs found in Kraig Kahler’s truck after he was arrested.
