GREELEY — Following an eight-year battle, the Veterans Administration has agreed to a 100-percent disability award for a 67-year-old Geeley man who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported George Hall had pressed his claim for post-traumatic stress disorder since 2003 which VA and state veterans officials had refused. U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts’ office took up Hall’s battle — and the 3-foot-thick file the VA had collected during the battle. After the intervention from Kay Sharp of Roberts’ office, the VA agreed to award Hall disability and made it retroactive for eight years from the time he first filed the case. Roberts told the newspaper that VA officials in Wichita and state Veterans Commission officials in Topeka dismissed Hall as overly belligerant and they behaved in an unethical manner in dealing with Hall and in some cases, deliberately tampered with documents in the case. Hall has a cattle operation near Greeley.
