WASHINGTON — The heat advisory was scheduled to end this evening but the heat isn’t going to go away for another week or two. U.S. Department of Agriculture meteorologist Brad Rippey said the southern Great Plains haven’t been able to see any letup in the heat and that this year will set new weather records. In some parts of Texas and Oklahoma, there have more than 80 days of 100-degree-plus temperatures and the summer has broken all previous records for temperature extremes, he said. The records will continue to be set for many parts of the Plains until the Labor Day holiday, he said.
