TOPEKA — A regional arts group has also cut off Kansas from further arts grants. The six-state Mid-America Arts Alliance says it’s now a five-state group and it won’t give any more grants to Kansas because Gov. Sam Brownback has eliminated funding for the state’s arts commission. Kansas is the only state to have eliminated funding for the arts. The alliance’s decision follows action by the National Endowment for the Arts that also cut off funding from Kansas. The alliance says that Kansas will lose $1.3 million in arts grants next year. Brownback has formed a private foundation to raise money for the arts. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Brownback’s foundation has yet to say how much money it’s raised, nor has it distributed any money to arts groups.
