OLATHE — Two Olathe Medical Center staffers, one from Paola and Gardner, will get a ride aboard one of only two zeppelins in the world. The Farmers Airship, the world’s largest airship, will visit the Charles Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Mo>, next week as part of a six-month journey across the country. Terry Mill, Gardner, who works in the women’s imaging center; and Vince Thorpe, a lab technician from Paola, will be given rides on the zeppelin. The visit is in support of Olathe Medical Center’s fundraising campaign to build a hospice house on the hospital campus. Farmers Insurance, which owns the zeppelin, will sell rides on the airship as part of the fundraiser. Although both are filled with helium, a zeppelin is different from a blimp. A blimp is bascially a giant gas bag. A zeppelin has an interior metal framework and more powerful engines.
