TOPEKA- In preparation for any damage Hurricane Irene could do in the northeast, Westar Energy is sending some of its crews to New York. Westar crews will arrive in Poughkeepsie on Monday and have plans to stay for two weeks. They will be on hand should millions of people lose power. Westar is a member of the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group which allows members to call upon neighboring utilities and contractors for help when a significant event hits.
