LAWRENCE — A Manhattan couple was injured when they were thrown from their motorcycle Thursday afternoon on a county road near K-32 northeast of Lawrence. The Kansas Highway Patrol said 63-year-old Donald Burnett, 63, was riding south on a Douglas County road near K-32 when a car driven by Dorvin Ledford, 37, Kansas City, Kan., suddenly slammed on the brakes. Burnett hit his brakes and laid the cycle on its right side and he and his passenger were thrown from the bike. He was taken to KU Medical Center. His passenger, Doreen Burnett, 65, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Ledford wasn’t injured. The highway patrol continues to investigate the accident.
