KANSAS CITY — Things are looking up as the Missouri River is starting to go down. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the river will remain flooded for weeks although it is receding. But during this weekend’s telephone briefing, Kansas City Corps district’s Jeff snethen said repair work to a levee in the Fairfax District of Kansas City, Kan., which had seen severe underwater scouring, has been completed and work on a levee upstream, which has had similar scouring, has started. The Corps also also opened the Missouri River to barge traffic from St. Louis all the way up the river to a spot north of Parkville, Mo., above Kansas City, he said.
