LAWRENCE — Kansas University’s Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute has received a $90,000 gift to train Kansas firefighters and grain handlers for rescues of people trapped in grain in bins and hoppers. Institute director Glenn Pribbenow said the gift will help set up a quality grain rescue program and help teach rescuers how to deal with the special circumstances involved with someone trapped under grain. That includes establishing a “mobile fire academy” to teach grain rescues anywhere in the state, he said.
