TOPEKA — Democratic legislative leaders and supporters of Kansas arts called on Gov. Sam Brownback to restore funding to the Kansas Arts Commission in his budget proposal for next year. That comes in the wake of recent decisions by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mid-American Arts Alliance to strip arts grants from Kansas because Brownback’s cut funding for the arts commission. Kansas House Democratic Leader Paul Davis said Brownback justified his cut with false pretenses and his assurances that the state would continue to get arts grants was wrong.
He says Brownback’s decision will lose 4,600 jobs related to the arts.
