KANSAS CITY — Kansas City school board president Airick West has resigned as the board’s leader. The Kansas City Star reportee that West will remain on the board. The paper reported that West had been at the center of tensions with departing school superintendent John Covington. Covington suddenly resigned to accept a position with an education-related group in Michigan. He gave the board 30-days’ notice, but the school board voted unanimously Tuesday night that Covington’s last day would be today. The board named district chief of staff Chace Ramey as acting superintendent.
