LAWRENCE — Kansas University’s school of music will honor one of the bad boys of classical music in a three-day celebrate beginning Sunday night.
Alan Walker is one of the world’s foremost authorities on composer and pianist Franz Liszt and he will lead the festival called, “A Liszt Odyssey.” The festival will include a student organ recital in Bales Organ Recital Hall Sunday night at 7:30. A recital featuring several KU artists and professors will be Monday afternoon at KU’s Spencer Museum of Art. Walker will speak on “liszt and the Keyboard: The Wizard Casts His Spells,” Monday night at 7:30 at the Lied Center of Kansas. On Tuesday night at 7:30, KU music professor Steven Spooner will perform music of Liszt and the world premiere of the Piano Sonata No. 2, called “The Last Resistance,” by New York composer Mohammed Fairouz at the Lied cCenter of Kansas. The sonata was written specifically for the festival. All events are free and open to the public.
