OTTAWA–John Kruzel of Ottawa worked as a Safety Inspector for a week at Ground Zero in December 2001, and one of his most vivid memories was workers searching for human remains. During a 9-11 Memorial Service at Ottawa University Chapel, Kruzel said when a worker spotted a body part, everything came to a stop. Once it was verified it was a human being, a procession was set up so the remains could be removed from the site with a sense of honor and dignity. The service at O-U was also an occasion to appeal for volunteers as a tribute to 9-11 troops, veterans and local first responders. If you would like to volunteer for a food drive or park clean-up or other activities, you can contact Lisa Rivers at ECKAN at 242-7450.
