LYNDON — Convicted murderer James Kraig Kahler says he has no money and has asked for a court-appointed attorney to handle his appeal. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Kahler wants the attorneys who represented him at his trial in Osage County District Court — Tom Haney and Amanda Vogelsberg — continue to serve as his court-appointed attorneys. A jury found him guilty of killing his wife Karen Kahler, their teenage daughters, Emily and Lauren Kahler; and Karen Kahler’s grandmother Dorothy Wight at Wight’s house in Burlingame during the Thanksgiving 2009 weekend. The jury recommended the death penalty.
