OTTAWA – The Kansas Legislature has ordered school districts to spend down most of their reserves. Ottawa school Supt. Dean Katt think the legislators’ order is bizarre. “Tell you spend too much, but then turn around tell you that you can’t have any money, so you can be broke like u, so you have to spend this money,” Katt said. “But that’s the way it is.” So, the ottawa school board spent part of Monday night’s meeting drafting their shopping list to spend thousands of dollars before the end of next June. It’s a shopping trip that board members would rather skip, Katt said. The board will decide later this month on what they’ll spend on. Katt said that could include roof repairs, new computers and other long-term improvements.
