BURLINGTON — A jury trial is set in January for a 22-year-old Leroy woman accused of murdering her newborn son last spring. Karen Marie Bailey is charged with first degree murder and child endangerment. Coffey County Attorney Doug Witteman and assistant attorney general Lee Davidson argue her baby died of ineffective post-natal care. The Anderson County Review reported that during the preliminary hearing, the baby’s grandfather testified that Bailey told him she had pulled over on the side of the road between her work in Lola and home and gave birth to a stillborn baby. She agreed to meet the man near Colony and gave him the infant’s body, which she had placed in a plastic container. However, prosecutors said the autopsy report showed the baby was born alive. Bailey is in the Coffey County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
