READING — A bank whose headquarters were destroyed when a tornado hit Reading earlier this year, has petitioned the Kansas Banking Commission for permission to move from Reading to Merriam Johnson County. The tornado killed one man, destroyed nearly all of the business buildings and about half of the homes in Reading in late May. After the tornado, officials of Tightwad Bank, formerly the Reading State Bank, said they wouldn’t rebuild. The Emporia Gazette reports that several people have expressed interest in bringing a new bank to Reading.
