NEW LANCASTER — An armed man forced his way into a house in southeastern Miami County Monday afternoon. The Miami County Sheriff’s office said an armed man went into a barn in the area of 383rd Street and Coldwater Springs Road and later forced his way into the nearby house. Three people were trapped in the house, the sheriff’s office said. Officers from Miami County, Johnson County, Bates County, Mo., the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Miami County special operations team began moving into the area. As officers began surrounding the house, the man fled the house and raced into woods west of the house, the sheriff’s office said. The victims in the house weren’t injured and taken to safety. Officers captured a man in the woods about a mile west of the house, the sheriff’s office said. Christopher Cook, 39, was booked into the Miami County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, the sheriff’s office said.
